I have a job where I receive e-mails from an internet fax machine. Occasionally something comes in for my boss that is of a personal nature, and as soon as I notice it’s personal I delete the notification from my inbox. Today one came in that was for the company, so I read it. It was a legal document…and after skimming through it I went over it again so slowly. To my dismay, it looks like my boss is in talks with someone to buy her company which includes the job I do. I’m upset that I had to find out that way…I’m sure the boss didn’t intend for that to happen but she should have kept an eye out for the fax so she could delete it from that mailbox before I saw it (the one other employee of our company probably hasn’t seen it yet but it is available to her should she decide to look through the faxes). Also, I’m not happy that she wouldn’t tell us that she was thinking of selling before the deal was done, if in fact it goes through. Perhaps she was afraid we’d bail, but I don’t think either of us is that selfish…plus we both need the money.
What I’m hoping, but not really expecting, is that the boss will still do work for the company but not own it…and maybe she would manage the two of us still. I know the people that sent her the fax because they are clients, and they seem nice but not as easygoing as the current owner and also they are not American-born so they are sometimes a little difficult to communicate with. So now I’m just worried about the whole thing. Then, when I told my husband all this, he said “so quit…get a real job.” ARGH! This *IS* a real job and it’s a lot of work too! Not to mention that despite the usual annoyances that come with working with customers, it’s kind of fun and I enjoy it.
Anyway, that’s my rant for now…I’ll keep you updated. *sigh*
